Chasing Toucans

On my last night in Misiones, Argentina a lone Toco appeared and started croaking in the tree outside the biological station I was staying in.

This is my favourite toucan picture from the trip. This was my first pair of wild Toco toucans I encountered. They were raiding nests and the other bird had flown off. This bird was going round and checking old nest sites when a storm came in.

Not a brilliant photo by any means but given that toucans belong to Piciformes which include woodpeckers this photo shows how woodpecker like they can be!



This was one of a pair of toucan's that we could not get a regular routine for they really gave us the run round. It turned out that they were 2 males that were unpaired but roosted together at night then went off and did their own thing during the day!
