Choco Toucan (Ramphastos brevis)

  • Smallest of the seven large Ramphastos toucans.

  • Often confused with the chestnut mandibled toucan but has a black stripe rather than brown. The two can be distinguished between their calls the Choco toucan croaks whilst the Chestnut mandibled toucan yelps.

  • Restricted to the Choco areas of forests in western Ecuador and western Colombia. Its estimated global range is over 110,000 km².
